Rosa Parks: Symbol of Resistance ✊🏿🔥🚎 – PINTURA MURAL
This mural, painted in New York City in an iconic and unique area filled with artwork from artists around the world, specifically in Freeman Alley, holds a special place in my career as an artist. It’s the first mural I’ve done in the city where graffiti and hip-hop culture were born, both of which have greatly influenced me, starting with my crew @growupcrew & @letsgrowhiphop , whom I proudly represented while I was there.
With this work, I aimed to portray someone who made history in the country and served as an example to all. That’s why I wanted to pay tribute to Rosa Parks, an iconic figure in the civil rights movement. In the center, Rosa Parks’ portrait is framed within the peace symbol and blends with a natural landscape crossed by a bridge connecting to New York City. This image symbolizes the idea of building bridges as a society, just as she did in her efforts to achieve equal rights for Black people in the United States.
The mural celebrates her legacy as a symbol of hope and unity in challenging times. Rosa Parks is well-known for her courageous act of civil disobedience when she refused to give up her seat on a bus to a white person in Montgomery, Alabama, in 1955. Her action sparked the civil rights movement in the United States, and her tireless struggle inspired many people to come together in the pursuit of equality and justice.
This work would not have been possible without the help of my Myks and my now friends James from @scrapyardnyc1, who not only owns the most iconic paint shop in the entire city but also treated me as a friend from the first moment. He put me in touch with @zui_nyc, who entrusted me with this incredible spot to leave my mark on the city and contribute a bit of my art to the urban culture of New York City.
